Hi! I'm Cindy Spoon. I live and work as an ESL teacher in Silver Spring, Maryland. In the spring of 2014, I participated in the Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) program, a U.S. State Department sponsored program of professional development for secondary teachers. I traveled to Russia and was hosted by Anzhelika Vladyko, a fabulous Russian teacher of English, at Gymnasium 13 in Yekaterinburg. Anzhelika and I shared ways of immersing our students in a second language. I taught a lesson to her students and observed her teaching. Our students shared traditional letters and later emails. We continue to communicate and update each other on our lives and our work.
Through the TGC program, I analyzed this broad concept of global education and reflected on its value, impact and implementation. This website is both a culminating step in the TGC program requirements and an ongoing repository of lesson plans, resources and reflections to continue the adoption of global perspectives and activities with my students, my colleagues and my community.
