Having an international travel experience or the chance to communicate across cultures within the United States is an excellent professional learning opportunity for teachers. Once we understand the challenges and benefits ourselves, we become stronger advocates for our students to have similar experiences.

The National Endowment for the Humanities offers teachers fabulous learning opportunities. They range from two to five weeks and take place throughout the U.S. and even overseas. Click the link below to see these opportunities.
NEH Teacher Workshops and Institutes
The Toyota Corporation has been sending educators on free overseas professional development programs for years. They are currently rethinking their programs so are not taking new applications right now. The link below will take you to their website where you can familiarize yourself with their trips and also place your name on a list to be notified once they begin accepting applications again. A colleague who traveled with me to Russia went to the Galapagos Islands through this Toyota program.
